The Countdown Begins! 09/21/2011
It's always an exciting time for Curious Gage when the first leaves begin to fall. Autumn means two things to those who worship at the a cappella alter in Fort Collins--smores, and Curious Gage's Annual Countdown to Candy! The concept for Countdown to Candy began six years ago when the members of Curious Gage sat down and started looking at our fall calendar. There was a big gap right between October and Christmas, and, being the restless vagabonds we are, we needed to fill it. It was at that moment that a big light bulb flashed above Tom's head, leading the rest of us to grumble in irritation as our eyes adjusted. "A Halloween concert, we must have," Tom declared in his best Yoda Voice (editor's note: it's possible my memory might have been augmented by the copious amounts of Star Wars I was watching at the time. Who can say?). It was a brilliant plan, but Halloween fell on a Monday that year, and really, who would want to spend time listening to a cappella when they had a chance to fill their maw with sweet, sweet candy? "Worry not, we shall," Tom said. "A Countdown, we must." And, thus, the Countdown to Candy was born! It's been an annual tradition ever since, and we're pleased to announce that we've finalized the date and time for this year's Coundown to Candy, and we expect it will be the best yet! Filled with spooky a cappella, fabulous costumes, prizes, and even a rap or two, don't miss what is sure to be the premier a cappella Halloween-themed, Clue-costumed event of the year! We have a very exciting month coming up here in Curious Gage, and it all starts in just a couple of weeks!
First, we are very excited to announce that we will be guest performers in this year's Caring for Kids Benefit Concert, hosted annually by the Colorado Academy of the Arts. For those unfamiliar with the event, it is a huge smorgasbord of music and dance, with all proceeds going to helping fund performance education for children in Northern Colorado. We are extremely excited to be joining the Academy at this fantastic show, and hope that each and every one of our fans will come out to support us on May 7th, at Mountain View High School in Loveland, CO. More information, including ticket pricing can be found on our schedule. Introducing Lindsay Rom 02/22/2011
We are very pleased to announce that after months of searching we have finally found our newest member: Lindsay Rom! Lindsay Rom has been singing since age 4, starting with school and church choirs. She lettered in Vocal Music and Theater in high school: a soprano 1 and an alto 2 for two years in the Madrigal choir, an alto 2 in Varsity Voices, and the only student to be in the Performing Arts Company for four consecutive years. Some of her notable performances were as Countess Aurelia in "The Madwoman of Chaillot", Zaneeta Shinn in "The Music Man", and Millie Owens in "Picnic". An avid reader, a life-long lover of film and television, a music enthusiast, and a dance devotee, she has been truly immersed in the artistic world. Living in Colorado has also given her a fresh perspective on health, politics, and philosophy- other tremendous passions of hers. (She is also rarely seen without her iPhone close by, and fusses when it's more than 30 feet away.) Logo Magic 11/28/2010
We here in Curious Gage have been blessed to have not one, but two incredibly talented graphic designers work with us over the years to develop some AMAZING logos. And in the tradition of this week-long nostalgic look back, I thought I would feature both of them.
In 2003 (wow...so long ago) Phil, Tom, Christian, Justin and I formed Curious Gage. We didn't have a clue what we were doing--just look at our name (and that's a subject for a different blog)--but we knew that more than anything else we needed a kicking logo. Something that would encompass the cutting edge, rock-til-you-drop vibe we were attempting to capture in those bygone years. I took a stab at it, and created some truly horrendous art. I scoured my computer to see if I could recover those early Van Goghs, but apparently even my hard drive hated that logo, and consequently it will never be seen again. Introducing Previn Hudetz! 11/03/2010
Curious Gage has some very exciting news today... ...we're announcing the addition of a new member! Ladies and Gentleman, introducing our brand new tenor...Previn Hudetz! (was that enough fanfare?) For those who live in Northern Colorado, Previn hardly needs an introduction. This award-winning composer has been performing locally his entire life (born and raised in Fort Collins, just like Nic, Carleen, and Tom), and is a graduate of CSU in Music Composition. Whether it's premiering original compositions, stunning audiences in operas, dazzling at weddings, or teaching private lessons, Previn has truly made his mark in Colorado. And now, we've been lucky enough to nab him and premier his voice in another way, as the new tenor for Curious Gage! Something New... 10/26/2010
In an effort to allow a little more transparency between us, the Gage, and you, the (hopefully) fans, we've decided to join 2003 and start a blog.
Better late than never. In particular, I wanted to take a moment to talk about the past, and what changes the future brings. For those of you who attended our concert last night, Countdown to Candy V, you got a chance to see a very poignant farewell to our long-time members, Phil and Kristi Seidow-Thompson. Both Phil and Kristi have been with Curious Gage for over three years, and it's tough to think about what the group is going to look like without them. | AuthorCurious Gage has been performing in Northern Colorado for over eight years. With a style all their own, this award-winning a cappella group can't be missed! ArchivesSeptember 2011 |
